THE ROLE OF THE GOVERNING BODY

To ensure that every child receives the best possible education the Governing Body fulfils a vital role (as defined by the School Governance (Roles, Responsibilities and Allowances) (England) Regulations 2013) by:

  • Ensuring clearly defined vision, ethos and strategic direction for the School

  • Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

Through the Governing Body and its committees, governors provide knowledge and wisdom, gained outside the School, to benefit the School using their financial, planning, administration and parenting skills, to inform and advise the School leadership team on various issues.

ABOUT THE GOVERNING BODY

The Governing Body of St Anselm’s Catholic Primary School is made up of foundation governors (appointed by the Diocese of Westminster), parents (elected by parents), the Head Teacher, staff (elected by School staff), a governor appointed by the Local Authority and co-opted and associate governors (appointed by the Governing Body for their specific skills and expertise).

The full Governing Body meets six times a year and;

  • Plays a central role in reviewing and developing the School Improvement Plan and all formal policies connected with the school

Declaration of Interests:

I’ve been a parent governor at St Anselm’s since March 2020.  I’m a mother of two young children, my son attends St Anselm’s school. My husband also attended St Anselm’s many, many years ago, and I know it’s been consistent in its care, high standards and academic achievements.

I have been a Police Constable in the Metropolitan Police service since 2005.  A large part of my policing career has been in Community engagement and partnership work, with a focus on youth work.  I’ve worked in school and college settings across the city, and have always had an interest in early years education.  This role as governor has given me great insight into the day to day running of a school, the decision-making processes and the importance of having a strong management and governing body team.

I’m passionate about safeguarding young people and prompting their welfare. I believe greatly in providing children with the skills to become responsible citizens and to contribute positively to their school and community.

I look forward to supporting the school and leadership team to continue in the excellent work they do.
