Healthy Living Week

What a Healthy Week it's been!

Roots to Food Workshop

The children had a fantastic time learning how to eat and live healthily this week! On Wednesday we welcomed chef Darren from the Roots to Food workshop who cooked up two fantastic dishes with teams of children. 'Mrs' Elpida lead the Orange Team who created a beautiful Twice Cooked Parmesan Chicken on a bed of Spring Onion Pasta served with a Chunky Tomato and Basil Sauce.

Whilst the Green Team headed up by Mrs Hickman created a sensational Tandoori Spiced Salmon with Pilau Rice and Bombay Saag Aloo. Each team had 15 minutes to cook the dishes before they were judged by a panel of very hungry children and eager staff!

When the time was up, Chef Darren presented both dishes to the panel for tasting and left the deciding vote to the audience. After much deliberation (and a cheeky taste from myself!) the children voted in favour of the Green Teams Tandoori Spiced Salmon!

Congratuations to both teams for their fantastic dishes and a huge thank you to Chef Darren from Roots to Food and Hilde from ISS for arranging this event! All recipes can be accessed by clicking the links at the end of this article.

On Thursday we welcomed a Bhangra workshop into school to demonstrate the art of this traditional indian dance. Both staff and children took part in the workshops and throughly enjoyed learning all the moves!

Daily Warm Up

Every morning this week the children took part in a daily warm up excercise on the front playground lead by Mrs Redmond and a motivating group of Year 6 children. The song of choice for the workout was "Rockabye" by Clean Bandit featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie. The children had lots of fun re-enacting the dance moves as seen in the music video (our staff also had a little boogie too!).
